Citizens: Why the key to fixing everything is us

This book changed the way I see the world. It reminded me of the interdependence of humans. The author proposes three narratives that have or will shape society:

  1. Subject Story: Emphasizes a hierarchical society led by authoritative figures, where individuals' main role is to follow directives, highlighting obedience and structure.
  2. Consumer Story: Focuses on individualism, portraying people as consumers competing for resources, where success is measured by acquisition, and relationships are transactional.
  3. Citizen Story: Advocates for active community participation, stressing the importance of civic responsibility, mutual support, and the collective shaping of society, contrasting with the top-down or self-centered approaches of the other stories.

At the moment, the consumer story is in decline and we have a chance to write a new story: The Citizen Story,
